THE FEEL OF EVIL
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Ø Evil is very tangible.
We know its feel
Ø Sometimes we speak of
evil outside of ourselves
Ø We speak of existence
of the devil or of demons
Ø And sometimes we speak
of evil w/i ourselves
Ø We speak of the power
of darkness w/i us personally, or w/i humanity in general
Ø Whether we’re talking
of what is outside us or inside us, we recognize there can be an absence of
God, of light, of goodness within & w/o
JESUS AND EVIL
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Ø In today’s gospel,
Jesus is dealing with evil
Ø In this particular incident,
he is dealing w/ an unclean spirit, a demon, evil in this man
Ø & he deals w/ this,
as passage says, “w/ authority”
Ø J has power 2 cast out
evil & 2 make man whole
JESUS AND US
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Ø The reality about evil
is that each of us has some darkness w/i us – we do indeed have a dark side
Ø We are all human / We
are not perfect
Ø And we also have a
relationship J, as Son of God
Ø Two things flow from
this relationship
Ø (1) Power or grace
from the relationship helps 2 tame R sinful inclinations
Ø (2) The power or grace
from the relationship helps us to become more and more like its source, J
JESUS SPEAKS WITH
AUTHORITY +++++++++++++++++
Ø It is reassuring and a
source of consolation then for us to hear J speak w/ authority in synagogue
today
Ø & with same
authority speaks to us thru the Word of God w/ power, power 2 enlighten &
guide us
CONCLUSION
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Ø In a moment J will act
still again in a saving way w power & authority in giving his very self 2 us
in bread & wine, his body & blood
Ø And his power went out
to man in Gospel, so power goes out (1) to tame the evil and (2) to become more
like him
