AUGUSTINE +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Ø Saint Augustine lived an
unsettled, searching life as a young man
Ø He was converted to XTY
& baptized at age 33

(36), bishop (41), and became renowned for his theological writings
Ø In one of those writings

himself & expresses his search in words that are famous
HIS WORDS
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Ø Late have I loved you, O
Beauty ever ancient, ever new, late have I loved you!
Ø You were within me, but I
was outside, and it was there that I searched for you.
Ø In my unloveliness I
plunged into the lovely things which you created. You were with me, but I was
not with you.
Ø Created things kept me from
you; yet if they had not been in you they would have not been at all.
HIS WORDS SPEAK OF +++++++++++++++++++++++
Ø He became aware of God &
of so much of God
Ø Aware that G & not
material things, physical pleasures, or anything else brings us the deepest
satisfaction of our desires
Ø Became aware that we don’t
need to search outside selves for what’ll bring fulfillment
Ø We need only look within
Ø And became aware that G is
w/i us, at core of being & that’s why we need only look within
HIS WORDS FOR US +++++++++++++++++++++++++
Ø Why 4 each of us, time
alone w/ self is so important
Ø Quiet, silent time w/ self =
time w/ the G w/i
Ø It’s in that quiet &
thru our inner self as a context that G speaks, energizes, enlightens, guides,
& comforts us
CONCLUSION ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Ø W/ Augustine as our
example, may we love the G w/i selves & w/i others
Ø May we allow R reception of
Eucharist 2 place us in touch w/ the G who is w/i
Ø May we allow Eucharist 2 awaken
in us satisfaction & happiness only God can give
