Tuesday of the 2nd Week of Easter

THE REALITY OF OUR LIVES ++++++++++++++++++++++
Ø  6-months at SLI can be a bit of roller coaster ride
Ø  A month can have us going thru stages of anger, confusion, break thrus, set backs, & new friendship
Ø  Sometimes that can happen in a single week!
Ø  And even after 6 months, we may still not be sure where we will end up living or ministering
Ø  So R stay can have aspects of mystery & feel bit terrifying
Ø  Being faced with so many crossroads makes us keenly aware that we are not in control
Ø  In the face of uncertainty, it takes honesty and courage to acknowledge our dependence on God
Ø  Both readings today speak of this experience of dependence on God
GOSPEL ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Ø  W/ Nicodemus we learn that to be born again from above is to be caught up in the life of the Spirit
Ø  Playing off the double meaning of pneuma, Jesus invokes the image of wind
Ø  Using it, he points out that the Spirit’s life is a life we do not control
Ø  We never fully know where that life comes from nor where it will take us
Ø  However, that uncertainty Jesus tells us is why he has been given to us
Ø  That is, in his Paschal Mystery we are assured of God’s love for us…
Ø  We are given a triumphal hope that in the end trumps all of our uncertainties
ACTS ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Ø  In Acts we see what results when followers of Jesus allow the wind to blow thru them
Ø  They sell their property and lay it at the feet of the Apostles for distribution
Ø  They give their possessions, their land, and their lives so they can be given as the Wind chooses
CONCLUSION +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Ø  These days after Easter are days when we recognize and acknowledge the turmoil in our lives
Ø  We need to allow ourselves to be swept up in the Spirit of loving and serving one another with the assurance that comes of Jesus’ resurrection
Ø  This is what it means to be born again!
