THE HEALING +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Ø  J leaves synagogue & comes to Simon’s house & finds Simon’s mother in grip of fever

Ø  He’s asked to do something for her

Ø  He rebukes fever; it leaves & she gets up 2 serve

Ø  In very brief incident 3 quick lessons for ministers like ourselves come to mind

1ST ALWAYS READY TO SERVE ++++++++++++++++++++

Ø  1st J always ready 2 serve
Ø  He’s just been in synagogue & we understand as ministers what it’s like after a service
Ø  Probably physically spent & in need of rest
Ø  Last thing wants is crowd and additional thing to do
Ø  & here he is entering Peter’s house & finds request of human need & answers w/o complaint

2ND CROWD NOT NEEDED +++++++++++++++++++++++

Ø  2nd J doesn’t seem 2 need crowd 2 work miracle
Ø  Many of us would put out an effort in a crowd that we wouldn’t make among a small group of a few
Ø  Think of the small number that often show up and we wonder is all this effort worth it
Ø  Many are best in large group & at worst at home
Ø  Too often we’re gracious, courteous, obliging 2 strangers & very opposite when there’s no one but R own at hand
Ø  J prepared 2 put out all his effort in village cottage in Capernaum when crowds not around

3RD HEALED AND SERVING +++++++++++++++++++++++

Ø  Finally, when Peter’s mother-in-law cured she begins 2 serve those in house
Ø  Realizes she’s given back her health 2 spend in service of others
Ø  No fuss, no attention, wants 2 get on w/ cooking
Ø  Our healing flowers for service 2 others

CONCLUSION +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Ø  2 verses, 51 words, 3 valuable lessons
Ø  (1) Ready to serve, (2) Wherever there’s need, and (3) Healed to care for others
