PAUL’S WORDS +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Ø  This morning taken by St. P’s words in 1st reading
Ø  Get my attention because I C them as imp in R world right now
PAUL’S VIRTUES +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Ø  Paul wants us 2 live w/ awareness of R unity, R 1ness w/ each other
Ø  Says: “strive for unity of Spirit thru bond of peace.”
Ø  He’s esp directing words to us XTNS, to us who R members of the Church
Ø  He doesn’t leave us in the clouds; he lists 4 virtues which help us 2 preserve this unity, R families, office, world
Ø  Humility – Means we use R gifts & at same time admit R limitations
Ø  Gentleness or Meekness – Means we not C selves better than others
Ø  Patience – That we accept +’s  -‘s of others becz we remain aware of R own
Ø  And Forbearance bearing w/ 1 another lovingly – Means we not expect everything 2 B just as we want it, but we accept human situation 4 what it is
JESUS ADDS A 5TH ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Ø  In today’s Gospel, J by example gives a 5th virtue that helps us live w/ sense of 1ness w/ others
Ø  Taking people on their own terms, in their own life situation, w/ where they are w/ faith
Ø  Precisely what J does w/ Matthew who was treated by others as an outcast
Ø  I’m reminded of Francis’ “Who am I to judge?”
CONCLUSION +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Ø  These virtues/traits help us live as 1 w/i the XTN cty
Ø  They’ll also help us as a world, a fragmented world, 2 live together as 1 – Christian, Jew, Muslim, Hindu.
Ø  Today, we pray 4 this oneness & that Eucharist we now celebrate will empower to do this
