Monday 19th Week OT
Bon Secours Retreat
August 11, 2014
BEYOND AND YET WITHIN ++++++++++++++++++++++
Ø  Today’s readings contrast the transcendence of God as described by Ez and the humility of Jesus as he predicts his execution and then pays his temple tax
Ø  Our theology and our spirituality must balance both realities
Ø  God is above and beyond us – and at the same time God is here and very much with us
Ø  The mystery of the Incarnation is the juxtaposition of that which is “beyond our grasp” and that which is “every day”
PSALM 8 +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Ø  The inspired psalmist (Psalm 8) sings out, “How awesome is your name, O Lord
Ø  When I see your heavens…what is man and woman that you are mindful of them, that you care for them?”
AWE ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Ø  There are over seven billion people on the earth
Ø  It overwhelms our comprehension that God loves each one and is personally aware of and present to each person
Ø  The word “awesome” is overused these days, but it is truly awesome that God can keep track of all of us and knows us intimately
Ø  The mystery of the simultaneous transcendence and immanence of the Divine One is without equal
CONCLUSION +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Ø  Today we pause and marvel: God is in his heaves and at the same time here with each of us
Ø  The Creator of heaven and earth, the Sovereign of the universe, has found a way to be an intimate part of his people’s lives
Ø  He has chosen to come to us as food
Ø  He fits into the palm of our hands
Ø  He lives with us each moment of the day
Ø  Our awesome God is yet down-to-earth!
Ø  That is a very good reason to praise the Lord this day
