THE CRY OF THE POOR +++++++++++++++++++++++++

We’re told that cry of oppressed, lonely, & rejected
= cry 4 recognition, presence & communion
Ø
Their cry disturbs, creates fear, provokes us 2 rejection
Ø
But, what we’re learning from Francis is if
they’re listened 2, they can also awaken hearts of powerful & wise, calling
them 2 change & conversion
Ø
They’re calling them not just 2 organize & do
things w/ generosity, but enter into communion w/ them
POWERFUL RESPOND ++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Ø
As powerful listen 2 cry of love surging up from
oppressed & powerless, they can begin 2 accept & love vulnerable child
w/i themselves
Ø
That’s why J calls his followers not just 2 give
food 2 the poor, lame, crippled, & blind,
Ø
But 2 invite them 2 their table, sit down and
eat w/ them which means 2 enter into relationship w/ them, 2 become their
friend
Ø
Powerful receive their gifts & their love,
empower them w/ love, & reveal 2 them their own beauty & value
THE GIFT OF THE POOR +++++++++++++++++++++++++
Ø
Sometimes it can B painful 2B w/ them in all
their anguish, just as it was painful 2 remain close 2 crucified J
Ø
Cry of poor disturbs & shatters security &
carefully planned ways, habits, & social values
Ø
Poor can create dis-order, crying out 4 a new
order
Ø
The poor & weak prune, purify
Ø
In their poverty & weakness, reveal the
poverty and weakness, darkness & shadow areas in those w/ power, comfort, &
security & lead them 2 insecurity & poverty of spirit
CONCLUSION

So it’s the Spirit of J thru all pain & disturbance
that leads us 2 something new,
Ø
A form of chaos from which is gradually born a
new love flowing from very heart of God
