ENTITLEMENT KILLS
GRATITUDE ++++++++++++++++++
Ø
The age of entitlement: we take it 4 granted
that we’ve a rt 2 have needs fulfilled & wishes granted
Ø
Few of us think it extraordinary we’ve a roof
over R heads, a warm bed 2 enfold us & full stomach 2 sing us 2 sleep
Ø
Yet 4 millions on planet, such conditions would
be cause for high jubilation
Ø
We’re so accustomed 2 getting most of what we
want, we‘re progressively losing gift of gratitude
Ø
Result=we make selves miserable, focusing on
lack
Ø
We’re highly skilled in counting R grievances, we’re
fast becoming a culture of complaint
FORGETTING GIFT &
GIVER ++++++++++++++++++++++
Ø
Meanwhile, like the lepers cured in today’s
Gospel, we’re unmoved even by miracles
Ø
Most of us belong to 90% who didn’t return 2 give
thanks 2 God 4 what we’ve received
Ø
Not only do we forget G, ultimate giver of all
gifts, we often forget 2 acknowledge R indebtedness 2 folks around us
GIVING &
RECEIVING +++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Ø
All receiving depends on a giving
Ø
People who give do so by impoverishing or
diminishing themselves in order to enrich us
Ø
We owe them our gratitude; it is not optional
Ø
Furthermore, courtesy of giving thanks is a
necessary lubricant of social life, binding persons together in mutual
generosity
Ø
And while expressing R gratitude’s important,
it’s even more important 2 feel gratitude
Ø
Feeling grateful=a sign we understand that
whatever we possess, we’ve received & only reason we’ve received it is someone
else’s given it
CONCLUSION
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Ø
Human community depends on this acknowledgment
of mutual indebtedness; w/o it we become chronic complainers
Ø
Where am I on spectrum may B a good question to
ask ourselves today
