INTERRUPTIONS
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Ø
Have
you ever been interrupted speaking in public?
Ø
If
not in public, been interrupted while on phone or sharing in a group?
Ø
Such
a thing can be very frustrating
Ø
Now,
compound that with another interruption – an interruption within an
interruption
Ø
Just
another hectic Monday, we might say!
Ø
This
does seem like a hectic Monday for J or is it rather that we read it as a hectic Monday for him?
3 OF JESUS’ INTERRUPTIONS
+++++++++++++++++++++
Ø
Interestingly,
today’s Gospel has no mention of Jesus as being annoyed, bothered, or angry
Ø
(1)
A man asks for a favor while J is speaking / J gets up & follows
Ø
(2)
A woman grabs his cloak / J turns around & offers a few words of
encouragement
Ø
(3)
J encounters a crowd who is making a commotion & he redirects their
attention
Ø
All
three incidents involve interruptions & All hold the possibility of great
annoyance
Ø
Yet,
in each case J in 1st seeks life, in 2nd gives life, and
in 3rd asks others to rethink life
OUR INTERRUPTIONS
++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Ø
When
we are interrupted, how do we react?
Ø
J
shows us a pattern considers importance of life & health before concern re
being interrupted
Ø
If
we stop and consider the nature of becoming annoyed w/ someone who interrupts,
might realize how selfish such behavior can be
Ø
(1)
J instead opts 2 stop & listen 2 grieving father
Ø
(2)
Even though grabbed, does not falter, but encourages!
Ø
(3)
& in face of commotion, offers new perspective
Ø
We
have same possibilities offered to us today in our own interruptions
CONCLUSION
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Ø
As
we’ve done before, we come 2 liturgy, place of new perspectives & R daily
bread
Ø
&
come 2 ask J 2 repair R lives & feed us w/ heavenly food
Ø
We
ask that such food give us patience 2 treat others same way J does – w/
openness & encouragement!
