TREASURE IN FIELD by chance ++++++++++++++++++
Ø Jesus teaches about
the great value of G’s K
Ø 1st, he
compares the K to a buried treasure discovered in a field
Ø Recognizing its
value, man hides treasure from others & buys entire field so no one contest
claim
Ø What is remarkable is
that the man sells all he possesses to get the field
Ø Point of parable = joy
of discovery that made man willing 2 give up all 2 make treasure his own
Ø Couldn’t that B joy
of finding w/o even looking?
Ø Having someone make a
comment, receive an unexpected letter and some wonderful news
Ø What is that
unanticipated gift or insight or forgiveness worth?
PEARL
OF GREAT PRICE IN SEARCH ++++++++++++++++
Ø In 2nd parable
find same point as in previous, but w/ difference
Ø In 1st man
digging not searching 4 treasure & finds
Ø In 2nd man
searching 4 single pearl of great price spending his life in search
Ø When he finally finds
object of search, puts all he has up 4 sale 2 make purchase
Ø Once again, the
accent falls on the extraordinary measure taken to acquire it
Ø Couldn’t that be the
joy over coming home to ourselves thru therapy & the compassionate
listening of 1 another in small & large groups?
Ø What’s joy worth? What
would U sell 2 have it?
Ø That’s meaning of
parable of treasure in field
GOSPEL IMPERATIVE +++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Ø Seems to me parables
tell us (1) We need to keep noticing what surprises God may send our way
Ø (2) Or what goal we
are working to achieve
Ø In both cases there
will be great joy in finding that will lead us to placing other things 2nd
or 3rd in our lives
