November 27, 2018 

REMEMBERING ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Ø  Join me for a moment in remembering things we cherished as children. For me it was my comic books and my collection of baseball cards

Ø  It may have been a favorite doll or a board game

Ø  These could well have been the most important things in your world at that time in your life

Ø  But over time, the things that are most important change as the world changes and as we change

Ø  Doll houses are replaced by real houses and baseball cards are replaced by the latest clothes

Ø  Story books are replaced by textbooks and toy cars and trucks replaced by smart phones

INTANGIBLEVALUES ++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Ø  As our lives go on, even these things are replaced by much more valuable intangibles

Ø  Love of family and friends, the satisfaction that comes from doing what is right and good, the joy of simply bringing joy to others

STILL GREATER CHANGES ++++++++++++++++++++++

Ø  Jesus’ words today about the destruction of the temple and the passing away of all that is are a jarring reminder and a wake-up call

Ø  Our happiness, our sense of completeness, our life’s fulfillment are not found in any of the things we once thought

Ø  Instead, they are found in embracing the things of God that include an inner life of the spirit

Ø  And what are these?  

o   Genuine respect for others

o   Using of the gifts God has given us

o   Experiencing a connectedness with others

Ø Such values move us out in circles to all other human beings

CONCLUSION ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Ø  Yes, these are the things of God and our span of years are a journey of finding that out, affirming them, as they emerge in us and are embraced

Ø  In the end, they will have prepared make us for the end of life as we have known it 

Ø  They will be the beginning of life face-to-face with God

Ø  My advice? Stay the course; respond 2 the deepest longings of your heart and you will be ready!
