Christmas Versus Easter++++++++++++++++++++
Ø  Easter different from Christmas / Christmas an event that took place once and for all.
Ø  Easter ends w/ Peter before an empty tomb
Ø  Easter stands in stark witness to meaning of what’s it to go on: despite death, in face of death, because of death
Ø  To celebrate Easter = to stand in light of empty tomb & decide what to do next w/ our lives
Ø  Peter touched deeply, life transformed by standing before empty tomb & who he was before the tomb / who he was after it
Ø  Transformation shows us effect empty tomb can have on us
From Realist to Risk-Taker++++++++++++++++++
Ø  Peter one who makes great promises & then breaks them. “I will never betray you” & 3x does
Ø  Great w/ statements & actions that save own status, slipping away, when others associating
Ø  Peter, part of us that knows how to be Cath w/o a cross / loves all J stands for as long as loved
Ø  When crowd’s mood changes, so too Peter
Ø  Peter values what people think of him > than values integrity, more than values own truth
APPLICATION++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Ø  The Peter in us is such a realist / don’t rock boat
Ø  No need speak out against abuses where we see
Ø  No reason to mix work & religion
Ø  No gain by upsetting circles gossiping or family reunion w/ delicate subjects
Ø  At empty tomb, Peter learns he has to stand publicly w/ those who believe what J believed & risk own reputation
Conclusion++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Ø  Today we come to empty tomb & must leave to return to living life at home, work, & play
Ø  And you? How have you come facing seeming tragedy
Ø  How do you leave?
Ø  Easter demands as much of us today as it did of the disciples then.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
