THE LIMITS TO LOVE? NONE! +++++++++++++++++
Ø  It’s not enough to limit your love to your own nation, own race, own tribe or group
Ø  You must respond with love even to those outside of it…
Ø  Respond with love to those who hate you
ROOTS OF HATRED +++++++++++++++++++++++++
Ø  It’s a message the followers of Jesus have heard from the beginning…
Ø  “that we should love one another”
Ø  John then explains our love must be unlike Cain’s who belonged to the Evil One
and slaughtered his brother
Ø  Cain slaughtered him because Cain’s own works were evil
A NEW IMPERATIVE +++++++++++++++++++++++++
Ø  This call to love even enemies enables us to live together not as political parties, states, or nations, but as common members of the human race
Ø  In this New Year of 2017 we have arrived at the stage of history where we will either take this step or perish
Ø  For we have learned with consummate skill to destroy the entire human race
Ø  We have learned how to efficiently annihilate all of mankind
Ø  Yet, for some reason we shrink with horror from the prospect, not of annihilation, but of reconciliation
Ø  We will either be reconciled — that is, we shall love one another — or we shall perish!
CONCLUSION ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Ø  With this New Year, let us love not in word or speech, but rather love in deed and truth

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
