TALKING STICK ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Ø  Talking Sticks were used by Native Americans as a means for an orderly, just and impartial hearing
Ø  Used at tribal gatherings and in storytelling circles
Ø  Allowed people to speak their sacred point of view
Ø  On the stick: Bear teeth=courage / Eagle feather=truth & high ideals / Blue=intuition, prayer
Ø  Rests in center of circle; each picked it up & spoke
Ø  Helped them speak the true in themselves in ways that others could truly hear them
APOSTLES ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Ø  By night, angel leads the imprisoned AA out of jail
Ø  In full light in temple area, tell all about Gospel life
Ø  They didn’t need a talking stick, but could achieve its end of speaking courageously, truthfully, & prayerfully about J
Ø  Ministered truthfully / Unafraid 2B exposed & seen
US ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Ø  Ministry requires us to be willing to be looked at, to be seen as our true selves
Ø  Similar to our being willing to pick up a talking stick
Ø  Those we look up 2 & those we allow to gaze at us in R brokenness need 2B people willing 2B seen
Ø  ~ If we have the stick, we need to speak courageously, truthfully, and soulfully about ourselves & our past
Ø  If we are listening, we need to do so with a generous, open, and loving heart
Ø  This interaction is “spiritual conversation,” as we give speaker full attention with our deep listening
CONCLUSION +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Ø  It seems an angel of the Lord has led us too out of apprehensive darkness into the clear light of unashamed honesty just being here at SLI
Ø  We find ourselves revealing our soul’s need for God and not condemned, but accepted, honored, and prayed for
Ø  In so doing we catch a glimpse of the eternal life we have in Christ
