FRANKLIN PER PROVERBS +++++++++++++++++++++++
Ø  Ben / political theorist / diplomat / civic activist, inventor…
Ø  Most famous for proverbs:
Ø  “A stitch in time…”
Ø  “A penny saved…”
Ø  “A place for everything and…”
Ø  “God helps those…”
Ø  “Honesty is…”
Ø  “Haste makes…”
Ø  “Guests like fish…” (begin to smell after 3 days)
Ø  “Keep your eyes wide open before marriage…” (half shut afterwards)
Ø  Sayings tell us something about / clever, practical, frugal, witty, understood marriage
JESUS PER PROVERBS ++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Ø  Gospel / proverbs of Jesus as well
Ø  Find about “those who fall thru cracks”: poor, hungry, thirsty, sorrowing, lonely, peacemakers, simple, persecuted
Ø  In effect, Jesus’ proverbs say, “I’m concerned / have my compassion, thoughts, blessing”
Ø  Living accrdng 2 these, not B in Frtne 500, of rich, but Blest
Today’s Feast +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Ø  Those “blest” we honor today, R blest of every race, language, way of life
Ø  They all had proverbs they lived by
Ø  Level 1: The Formally Recognized – John XXIII & JPII
Ø  Level 2: The Unsung Saints – good Christ-like in R parishes and communities
Ø  Level 3: Us: In us in our better moments
CONCLUSION++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Ø  So today we honor all levels of saints and the proverbs they made real in their lives
Ø  Because it’s our feast as well, we might ask what are the proverbs we’ve made our own and by which we live?
