EDUCATION IS IMPORTANT

Principal of a Cath HS surprised
by phone call

From inmate at nearby prison who’d
amassed a fortune by illegal enterprises
Ø
Man offering 2 make a signif donation
2 the school.
Ø
In return for donation, inmate
wanted HS 2 award his adult son, HS dropout, to receive a diploma
Ø
As principal inquired further,
became clear that inmate didn’t want son 2 have 2 do anything 2 earn diploma
Ø
Simply wanted son 2 B sent a
diploma
Ø
Principal flabbergasted. Why, she
asked, did he care so much that son, now in business 4 himself, should receive
his diploma?
Ø
“Because,” inmate replied, “education
is imp!"
BAPTISM IS IMPORTANT ++++++++++++++++++++++++
Ø
No easy road 2 learning; diploma
by itself means nothing w/o experience of learning & discovery it
represents
Ø
In much same way, simply having
name on a baptismal certificate doesn’t make us XTN
Ø
Our id as disciples of J is found
in values we live & beliefs we hold
WHAT’S CALLED FOR? ++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Ø
When James & John make bold
request of J 2 sit at rt hand in kingdom, J tells them they must B willing to
immerse selves in suffering & pain J will endure 4 love of God
Ø
Greatness 4 faithful D means 2 give
oneself in service to others in imitation of J the Servant
Ø
Consequently, such service can
only begin once we “empty” selves of own self-centered needs, wants and
interests 2 be “filled” w/ Gospel spirit of loving service, compassion & forgiveness
CONCLUSION +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
