WISE OLD MONK
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Ø
Many years ago, a novice monk went to his abbot
and asked, “How can we love our enemies
when most of the time we don’t even respond to love with love?”
Ø
The wise old father responded, “My son, if you cannot love your enemy, try
hating him a little less every day.”
Ø
Maybe that’s a good start in trying to live
today’s Gospel
5 STEPS FOR HATING A
LITTLE LESS +++++++++++++++
Ø
Okay, maybe “loving” some of these folks is a
lot to ask
Ø
1st Let’s say you start with putting
aside a little of your anger, your scorn, your judgment
Ø
2nd try to look beyond that they do
that infuriates and try, instead, to see that is good and decent about them
Ø
3rd Maybe today just take the initiative
to say hello
Ø
4th make a small offer to help or
pass along something they might be interested in
Ø
5th offer a compliment or a word of
encouragement
2 POINTS TO NOTICE +++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Ø
Notice in the steps mentioned above:
o
There’s nothing big, nothing over-the-top, just
a little less “hate” each day
o
Also they are developmental, thus beginning with
#3 may be too much too fast
GRACE BUILDS ON
NATURE ++++++++++++++++++++++
Ø
Grace will build on nature as Thomas Aquinas
used to say, that is, as my nature is restored, God’s grace will be more apt to
flow through me to others
CONCLUSION +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Ø
Imagine that!
