Ordinary, Everyday Miracles (Week 3)
(Rev. Msgr.) Nicholas P. Amato
Present Message Series
We are in the third week
of our second summer series.
We’re taking time this end-of-summer time
to look at miracles….
but not just any miracles.
Ordinary, everyday miracles.
The kind of miracles that accompanied Jesus’ ordinary, everyday life and accompany our ordinary, everyday life as we draw summer to a close and begin a new school year.
Our hope is that this extended reflection
coming as it does just before the fall season —
which is one of the busiest times of year for many of us —
will, in a sense, “fill up our faith tanks”
with renewed confidence
that God is at work in our lives
and can work wonders and miracles
in the moments and activities in each day
in fact this day, this moment.
Gospel
In today’s Gospel reading
Jesus is instructing his friends and followers
on the reality of discipleship to which he’s calling them …
that is, what it really means to follow him.
And he is quite clear, all too clear,
that it will not always be easy.
But he does promise his presence and his power —
a presence and power that will prevail in the end, despite opposition and conflict.
Application
The Lord is actually coaching and teaching
his closer followers — yes, you and me — to keep their focus
on him and his presence and power.
And when they do — make that when we do —
We actually get to see, we get to experience, his miracles.
What is true for them is no less true for us.
Stay close through prayer and the good works that flow from that closeness and the promise is you will see miracles of all sorts
And that “seeing” is taking place in your very hearing Jesus’ Word to us
Stay close and you too will see them!
Conclusion
Please join us after Communion for Week 3 of
Ordinary, Everyday Miracles.
