Thursday 11th Week OT
St. Mary’s Pylesville

BELONGING +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Ø  As children we may have asked: “Mommy am I adopted?”
Ø  It is the childhood need to belong, to be assured I’m part of this family
Ø  We are told that we’re the children of God and we inherit all that belongs to our Father
Ø  Yet, because we’re “adopted” children, we may think down deep we really do not belong
ASSURANCE +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Ø  For this reason, R Father gives us a Spirit of adoption, a Spirit that helps us relate 2R Father
Ø  As we mature in our faith, that Spirit brings us to greater and more profound simplicity and childlike trust
Ø  We grow up 2 relate 2R F as a child & able 2 cry “Abba”
Ø  Spirit gives us what we need 2 approach R Father & then J teaches us what 2 say in F’s presence
Jesus’ WORDS +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Ø  However, Jesus makes clear that R F loves us & knows what we need before we even ask, so, we should just ask
Ø  What might the “asking” look like?
Ø  Don’t have 2 write a letter 2 convince R F 2 hear
Ø  Don’t have 2 get God’s attention w/ words
Ø  We just need to connect with G’s loving gaze which is always upon us
Ø  “The gaze” is “the ask.” The “gaze” is enough
APPLICATION ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Ø  When we suffer in silence, the gaze from prayer is enough
Ø  When we are angry w/ God, the gaze from prayer is enough
Ø  When we’re hurting, the gaze from prayer is enough
Ø  And what the connection offers us is expressed in the very prayer Jesus teaches us. We receive:
o   bread each day
o   protection in temptation
o   forgiveness of our sins
Ø  And most importantly in our receiving each of these, we are then empowered to be daily bread, protection and forgiveness for others
CONCLUSION +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Ø  We have received a Spirit of adoption and we are children of a kind and loving Father
Ø  It is with those assurances, we are empowered to be brothers and sisters to others

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
