WalkING not water +++++++++++++++++++++++++
Ø In
Gospel, J responds 2 man’s request 2B healed
Ø But
note, he does not help the man to get into the pool of water when it is stirred
Ø The
man thinks that is what he needs to be healed
Ø Instead,
J tells the man to pick up his mat and walk
Ø The
man does what Jesus says, and he walks
Ø So
what we see happening is that J combines his power w/ the man’s effort

GOOD LESSON ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Ø And
this is a first lesson for us
Ø J
expects us 2 desire healing & wholeness, not just physical, but also
personal & spiritual
Ø What
we need 2 do is turn 2 the Lord & then open ourselves 2 God coupling his
power w/ R effort
Ø It
is both Jesus and we who are at work together
Ø That’s
what we C happening in this incident today
Ø And
it’s what we have seen happening in Roger’s life over the past six months

Good Lesson +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Ø Notice
also that J doesn’t take man into the water
Ø Apparently,
he wanted to be clear that it was his power & not the water…
Ø Coupled
w/ the man’s effort, it was his power that would lead to healing
Ø That
was the case when Jesus was physically here on this earth
WITH JESUS RISEN +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Ø In
contrast, now, after J has risen & left earth, he does act thru H2O or thru
bread/wine
Ø Jesus
now enlivens us, brings us life, empowers us, and heals us through sacramental
signs
Ø In
these ways, he extends the same power to us today as he did to this man
CONCLUSION +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Ø We
just have to do our part and both desire and open ourselves to the healing and
wholeness that the power of Jesus can bring us
Ø And
so the miracles continue throughout our world and here at SLI!
